The truth was out there this evening in Cannes as the world premiere of the rebooted The X-Files played the Palais, exciting fans and execs alike, far and near. A packed house saw FBI Agents Mulder and Scully return to sleuthing after 13 years, having switched flip phones for iPhones.
There’s a distinct throwback to the old days (flashlights!), and the opening titles for the six-episode event series have remained intact while Skinner and the Cigarette Smoking Man loom.
Creator Chris Carter, who was in attendance, said he wanted to keep telling story of Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) and that the new series will continue to explore their relationship. He also admitted he’s a skeptic.
Episode 1 of The X-Files screens October 10 at New York Comic-Con, followed by a Q&A with Carter and Duchovny.
The rest of us will have to wait until the series’ two-night premiere event, beginning at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT on January 24 immediately following the NFC Championship Game and continuing the next night in its regular 8-9 PM ET/PT time slot.20th Century Fox Television is producing in association with Ten Thirteen Productions. Carter is executive producing, along with co-executive producer Glen Morgan.
