Herb Braha, a stage and actor who later founded LA-based costume supplier Richard the Thread, died February 6 of congestive heart failure. He was 69.
A native of Hyannis, MA, who spent his formative years in Miami, Braha moved to New York to pursue a stage career. He landed a role in the original 1971 off-Broadway production of Godspell, whose original cast album went gold and won a Grammy. Later in the decade and through the 1980s, Braha guested on such popular TV series as Kojak, Happy Days, Charlie’s Angels, Soap and Remington Steele. His credits also include features Rock ‘n’ Roll High School — playing the Ramones’ agent in Roger Corman’s cult classic — The Howling, Some Kind Of Hero and Child’s Play 2.
More recently, Braha founded Richard the Thread, a fabric house and costume supplier whose clients include productions ranging from stage plays and opera to the Pirates of the Caribbean and Iron Man franchises.
Braha is survived by his brothers, Charles and James; nieces Ashley and Lauren; nephew Julian; and grandnephew Max. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday at the Skylight Theater in Hollywood. It’s the first stage on which the actor performed after relocating to Los Angeles.
