Andrew Dice Clay has been plugging along ever since a double album artlessly titled The Day The Laughter Died nosedived a stand-up career that saw him selling out arenas. He has done some TV work – Entourage, Bless This House, Hits, Crime Story and HBO’s upcoming Vinyl – and had a role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine. Now, more than a quarter-century after his meteoric rise and cratering fall, the Diceman has his own semi-autobiographical scripted series on Showtime, which the premium cabler said today will bow at 9:30 PM Sunday, April 10, following the Season 5 bow of House Of Lies.
Here’s the first trailer for the Scot Armstrong-created show, which chronicles the stops and starts of Clay’s career resurgence in his transplanted home base of Las Vegas. Mired in Sin City’s suburbs, Clay tries to live his life while still trapped in the skin of his infamous character. You remember: the adult nursery rhymes, the insults, the ban from MTV, the deliberate controversy. He works to pay back his gambling debts, manage his sons’ heavy metal band and fend off pumped-up fans — all while sporting his trademark black leather jacket and fingerless gloves, poised for a comeback.
Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, Dice also stars Kevin Corrigan and guest stars Natasha Leggero, Lorraine Bracco, Adrien Brody, Michael Rapaport, Wayne Newton, Criss Angel and Rita Rudner. Armstrong, Clay, Sean Furst, Bryan Furst, Bruce Rubenstein, Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka are the exec producers. Check out the trailer above.
