‘The Extra Mile‘ Debuts Big In Israel
The Extra Mile, the new reality format from Israel’s Studio Glam, debuted locally on Tuesday as the most-watched show on Channel 10 in the past two years. The show, which challenges divorced couples to work together in hope of winning a trust fund for their children, had an average rating of 26.6 with a 37.7% share, the latter a 167% increase on the slot average. It was the highest launch in Channel 10 history and the No. 1 show of the day. At Mip-TV earlier this month, Endemol acquired rights to produce the format in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Scandinavia.
European Film Promotion Taps 24 Partners For Producers On The Move
The European Film Promotion, the international network of organizations that promotes and markets European cinema worldwide, has selected 24 emerging producers to take part in its Producers On The Move initiative at the Cannes Film Festival next month. From May 17-19, the program will include working sessions, one-to-one speed-dating meetings and various opportunities to exchange knowledge and follow-up discussions on future projects. EFP launched the scheme in 2000. Last year’s Producers On The Move resulted in 17 co-productions going into development. A full list of up-and-comers who’ll be in Cannes is available here.
Mongrel Media Buys ‘Grace Of Monaco‘ For Canada
Canada’s Mongrel Media has acquired all Canadian rights to Olivier Dahan’s Grace Of Monaco, which is opening the Cannes Film Festival next month. Nicole Kidman stars as Grace Kelly in the movie that covers a period of the actress-turned-princess’ life when she questioned her true identity and responsibilities. Tim Roth, Frank Langella, Parker Posey, Jeanne Balibar, Derek Jacobi and Paz Vega also star. Mongrel Media acquired the film from producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam’s Stone Angels.
Zodiak Rights Picks Up Jean-Pierre Mocky’s Films
Zodiak Rights has acquired distribution rights to all feature films directed and produced by France’s prolific Jean-Pierre Mocky through his Mocky Delicious Products banner. Including 50 films made between 1959 and 2014, the catalog has such titles as The Chasers, The Red Ibis, and The Witness. It also includes Mocky’s just-released Sleep Tight Sweetpea and the upcoming Slander and The Mystery Of The Daffodils. Zodiak also acquired 2010 TV movie The Wrath and three seasons of Myster Mocky Presenté, the anthology Mocky directed as a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock. Featured in the series are Gérard Depardieu, Michel Piccoli, Arielle Dombasle, Claude Brasseur, Stéphane Freiss, Jean-Hugues Anglade, Virginie Ledoyen and Bruno Solo, among others.
Austrian Director Michael Glawogger Dies At 54
Michael Glawogger, an Austrian filmmaker who had been on a yearlong car trip through Eastern Europe, Sierra Leone, Gambia and elsewhere, has died of malaria while shooting in Liberia. He was 54. Known for such for writing and directing documentaries as Workingman’s Death, Whores’ Glory and Megacities, he also helmed the yuppie comedy Slumming, which was nominated for the Golden Bear in competition at Berlin in 2006, and such features as Kill Daddy Good Night and Contact High. Glawogger earned DGA Award and European Film Award noms for Workingman’s Death.
Intrigue Gets U.S. Rights To Korea’s ‘3rd Hospital’, ‘Vampire Prosecutor’
LA-based Intrigue has optioned U.S. format rights to Korean series 3rd Hospital and Vampire Prosecutor in a deal with CJ E&M. Intrigue, which develops formats for the U.S. marketplace, has credits that include truTV’s Operation Repo. 3rd Hospital, which aired in Korea on tvN, follows the conflict between traditional Eastern medicine and modern advances as two brothers from both fields fight to save their patients. Vampire Prosecutor, a local hit for OCN, features a vampire who uses his uncanny powers to solve crimes. But his biggest challenge is to keep his dark secret hidden while attempting to crack the one case he can’t solve: uncovering the identity of the vampire who first bit him seven years ago.
