Apparently there are limits to even TMZ’s ability to make just anyone famous. The Artiaga family of Beaumont, CA, learned that this week when the CW pulled the plug on the Artiagas’ series, Famous In 12 — after just five episodes.
In the CW reality series/social experiment, the family moved to L.A. where, guided by the TMZ machine, they traipsed around town waging a “fame campaign” on social media. Family members were tracked constantly via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in an effort to wedge their way into the pop culture pantheon in 12 easy episodes.
In Tuesday’s episode. TMZ founder Harvey Levin broke the news to the clan the show was not clocking enough viewers to continue, in what may be the first time a TV show has announced its own cancellation on air. By not enough, Levin meant about half a million viewers and a 0.2/1 in the demo that night — low even by CW standards.
Executive produced by Levin, avid Garfinkle and Jay Renfroe, the show hailed from Renegade 83 and Harvey Levin Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television and Telepictures.
