EXCLUSIVE: Comedic standout Jillian Bell went toe to toe with Jonah Hill as a caustic co-ed in this summer’s 22 Jump Street. Now Sony’s bringing her into its untitled Christmas Eve Comedy project opposite Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie. Rogen and Gordon-Levitt reunite with their 50/50 helmer Jonathan Levine in the film from Sony, Good Universe, and Point Grey Pictures, which Levine scripted and is directing. Pic tracks three childhood best friends who reunite in New York City for their annual tradition of going out on Christmas Eve. Bell will play Betsy, the wife of Rogen’s character who gives the pals a cornucopia of drugs on Christmas Eve so they can have one last hurrah together.
Bell has been parlaying her recent comedic runs on Eastbound & Down and Workaholics into a string of feature roles. She next appears in Paul Thomas Anderson’s WB pic Inherent Vice and also landed a role in Sony’s Goosebumps. Bell is also a writer who last December sold comedy pitch and potential starring vehicle Let’s Get Married to MGM with writing partner Charlotte Newhouse. The pair recently created, wrote and star in web series Idiotsitter, which Comedy Central picked up to series in June.
The Untitled Christmas Eve project is produced by Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver for Point Grey Pictures. Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake are exec producing for Good Universe alongside Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter. Bell is repped by Innovative Artists, 3 Arts Entertainment, and SMGSB.
