It looks like the Syfy sequel has had a bite taken out of its schedule, to say the least. This morning, about 30-40 members of the Sharknado 3 production crew voted to walk off the job in search of an IATSE contact. The production and post crew are seeking a health and pension agreement. Sharknado 3 is set to air this summer on the NBCUniversal-owned channel.
Today’s labor action sees picketing outside the Burbank-based offices of Sharknado 3’s producers The Asylum. The producers had no response when contacted by Deadline about the strike and contract desire. It’s worth noting that 2014’s Sharknado 2: The Second One was done under an IATSE agreement, but this latest version of the franchise has been non-union.

The last similar labor action was Local 700’s strike against Bravo’s Shahs Of Sunset, which started on September 10. After more than a dozen postproduction crew members walked off the job, the Season 4 debut of the reality series was pushed back and then seemingly taken off the calendar. With some harsh words and posturing behind them, Bravo — also owned by NBCUniversal — and the Motion Picture Editors Guild reached a union deal on October 10. The latest season of Shahs of Sunset premiered last night on Bravo.
