UPDATED, March 27: The San Francisco Film Society said today that Mr. Holmes will have its U.S. premiere April 25 at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
PREVIOUSLY, March 11: Bill Condon‘s latest film was a real favorite at Berlin, and now it’s out to conquer the States. Miramax and Roadside Attractions will release Mr. Holmes on July 17 in the U.S. Ian McKellen plays a 93-year-old Sherlock Holmes wrestling with the case that forced him into retirement. Having visited postwar Japan, the world’s greatest detective now lives as a pensioner in a remote farmhouse with his housekeeper (Laura Linney) and her son (Milo Parker). Miramax acquired the film at Toronto when it still was in post. It reunites Condon and McKellen, who worked together on Gods And Monsters star Ian McKellen. Jeffrey Hatcher wrote the script based on the Mitch Cullin novel A Slight Trick Of The Mind.
