EXCLUSIVE: I. Marlene King, executive producer/co-showrunner of ABC Family‘s flagship drama Pretty Little Liars, is adapting another book as a potential series for ABC Family. Bella Thorne is set to star in the drama project, now in development, which is based on Rebecca Serle’s romantic novel Famous In Love. King and Serle are writing the adaptation, which centers on a college student (Thorne) plucked from obscurity to star in a major Hollywood movie franchise who struggles with her new-found fame.
Famous In Love hails from PLL producer Warner Horizon TV and King’s Long Lake Media. King executive produces with Dan Farah (The Shannara Chronicles). Serle serves as co-executive producer.
Actress-singer-dancer Thorne, who has TV history with Disney having starred on the Disney Channel series Shake It Up, is a fan of Serle’s book, which was published in October by Poppy. Thorne, a budding author herself — her debut novel Autumn Falls came out in November — gave a quote about Famous In Love, which was featured on the book’s cover. “Rebecca Serle completely captured what it’s like to be a part of Young Hollywood,” Thorne said. “I absolutely loved Famous In Love. A must-read for anyone curious about life and love behind the scenes.”
On the feature side, King is writing and executive producing The Merciless for Lionsgate, based on Danielle Vega’s popular horror novel inspired by real events.
