The distribution and marketing venture launched last year to handle EuropaCorp’s U.S. movie releases and Relativity’s slate has a new top film marketer. Tommy Gargotta, the former longtime creative advertising chief at Sony, has joined Relativity EuropaCorp Distribution as President of Theatrical Marketing. He will report to Relativity President Tucker Tooley and EuropaCorp CEO Christophe Lambert.
Gargotta exited Sony after 13 years last summer, a week after Jeff Blake left. He long has been considered a top creative advertising mind in the business — a guy who’d come up with a campaign and then recut and rescore it again and again, as he did with the James Bond franchise. Gargotta also conceived and oversaw marketing campaigns for such Sony films and franchises as American Hustle, The Amazing Spider Man, 21 Jump Street, Hotel Transylvania and The Da Vinci Code.
“Tommy, one of the most creative executives in our industry, is the perfect person to oversee marketing for our distribution company and connect our slates with audiences in an increasingly fragmented marketplace,” Lambert said. Added Tooley: “Tommy brings a remarkable track record to his new role and his creative instincts and marketing acumen are the best in the business.”
Relativity’s upcoming pics are Sundance acquisition The Bronze (July 10), Masterminds (August 7), Kidnap (October 9) and Autobahn (October 30). Next up for EuropaCorp stateside are The Transporter Refueled (June 19), Shut-In (February 19) and The Lake (July 15, 2016)
