After focusing exclusively on features for the past few years, writer Tom Wheeler is returning to television with a sizable two-script deal at Sony Pictures TV.
The studio and Wheeler are already zeroing in on ideas for the two projects, which I hear both will likely be one-hour originals, one with horror elements and the other possibly touching upon science fiction.
Wheeler wrote several projects back-to-back that went to pilot: The World According To Barnes (2007), Captain Cook’s Extraordinary Atlas (2009) and The Cape (2010) with the last one picked up to series by NBC. He then segued to features, spending the last few years at DreamWorks Animation, doing production rewrites and working on the Puss In Boots franchise, starting with the 2011 animated feature, which he wrote.
On the live-action side, Wheeler is currently penning a science fiction underwater thriller for Paramount, with Michael Bay attached to direct with his Platinum Dunes producing. Wheeler is repped by WME.
