J.J. Abrams continues to overhaul his Bad Robot Productions. He has tapped Tommy Harper to join as COO, a new position. Harper will oversee Bad Robot’s daily operations and report to Abrams, collaborating with Abrams on identifying and creating strategic initiatives for the company.
Harper worked on Bad Robot-produced films including Mission: Impossible and Star Trek franchises. He is also exec producer on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Other credits include Alice In Wonderland, Battle: Los Angeles, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Big Eyes. Abrams for years relied heavily on Bryan Burk, and while he continues to function as a producer completing Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and the Abrams-directed Star Wars rebirth, Abrams has made several staffing moves that were consistent with rumors that he was overhauling his company. That included hiring BBC’s Ben Stephenson to oversee Bad Robot Television.
“I’ve been lucky enough to work with Tommy Harper for years,” Abrams said. “Again and again he has proven to be an impressively responsible, dedicated and hard-working leader. His insights and experience will help Bad Robot across all departments, in countless ways. Despite how impeccably he dresses, I admire him enormously.”
Said Harper: “J.J. and I have worked closely together over the years producing films, building trust and success, and I’m excited to take this next step with him. Bad Robot is a dynamic company at the forefront of innovation in entertainment, and I look forward to coming on board to further its endeavors and work with the talented Bad Robot family.”
