Nearly 24 hours after the trailer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was leaked via a shaky cellphone camera recording, Warner Bros has kneeled before reality and released the teaser officially. The trailer for the film, starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as DC’s contentious superheroes, originally was planned to be unveiled during a 15-minute long event in Imax theaters on Monday. The studio’s official release spoils that planned surprise.
Warner Bros and DC can at least console each other that they aren’t alone. Rival Marvel Studios was faced with a similar dilemma last October, when an Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer intended to premier during an episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. leaked a week early. Marvel acted fast, first quickly releasing the trailer officially, then putting together a completely different preview of Age of Ultron to air with the planned S.H.I.E.L.D. episode instead.
A Warners rep confirmed that Monday’s event will go on as planned; shortly after, Zach Snyder tweeted what many observers suspected, that the 15 minute event contained more footage than is shown in the official teaser released today:
Meanwhile, Warner Bros can also take comfort that the event escaped exposure to gold Kryptonite: Imax’s website says all of Monday’s screenings are completely full.
