Shortly after appointing Chantal Rickards as its first CEO, BAFTA LA has promoted Matthew Wiseman to the post of COO. The London native joined BAFTA LA in 2002 and has held various roles since then, most recently as Director of Operations. During his tenure, Wiseman has helped expand the organization’s screening and events program, launched educational initiatives for emerging talents including the Brits To Watch program, and developed the BAFTA US Student Film Awards and BAFTA Britannia Awards into tentpole events.
BAFTA LA was founded in 1987 to serve as a bridge between the Hollywood and British production and entertainment industries. The group is currently in a growth period with the aim to become the hub of the British creative community in Los Angeles.
Wiseman said, “It is a privilege to step into this role, and I am humbled and honored by the opportunity. I have had the pleasure of working with the BAFTA team for over 13 years, and share the academy’s deep commitment to supporting creative British talents in Film, TV and Games around the world. I am delighted to take on this expanded role and work alongside Chantal Rickards and the Board here in Los Angeles.”
