Annie Mumolo has joined the cast of the Universal comedy Michelle Darnell. She reteams with Melissa McCarthy, as Mumolo co-wrote Bridesmaids with Kristen Wiig and got Oscar nominated. Michelle Darnell also stars Peter Dinklage, and it’s directed by Ben Falcone. Since co-writing Bridesmaids (Wiig didn’t want to do a sequel), Mumolo has gained traction as an actress. She currently stars in the NBC comedy About A Boy and recently shot the pilot The 46 Percenters for Warner Bros Television and ABC. She also recently co-starred in the Jill Soloway-directed comedy Afternoon Delight.
As a writer, Mumolo wrote the first draft of Joy, which David O. Russell rewrote for the film he directed that stars Jennifer Lawrence as Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. Mumolo also is reteaming with Wiig to write, produce and star in an untitled comedy for TriStar Productions that Wiig will direct. Mumolo is represented by UTA, Thruline and attorney Karl Austen.
