Noomi Rapace has had a pretty voracious appetite for challenging roles since before she became an international name thanks to the Swedish-language Millennium trilogy. In that series she played tough-as-nails Lisbeth Salander. It takes a rare talent to go from that to, in a few short years, taking on world-famous soprano Maria Callas in an upcoming biopic about her affair with shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. But Rapace has always had a fearless streak. On a whistle-stop tour of Cannes, where Content Media is handling world sales on the Niki Caro-directed movie, Rapace stopped by Deadline’s Studio at Nikki Beach’s Le Petit Bar at the Carlton to talk about how much the legendary opera soprano means to her. She was straight off to the airport to continue rehearsals on another project, What Happened to Monday?, in which she’ll play seven roles as seven sisters alongside Glenn Close. There are another two projects, she says, before Callas lenses, but already she’s planning her research process, and “finding her voice” in the role.
