John C. Reilly is one of the busiest men in Cannes this year, with three films in Official Selection. But he took time out to stop by the Deadline Video Studio at the Nikki Beach Petit Bar to chat about Tale Of Tales and The Lobster, which are in Competition, and Les Cowboys in Directors’ Fortnight. A very dapper Reilly says he jumped at the chance to work on these films, the first by Matteo Garrone, which he was thrilled to discover at its official screening earlier in the week is “a masterpiece.” The film shot in Florence and Sicily, while Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster was filmed in Ireland, and Thomas Bidegain’s Les Cowboys brought him to France and the Middle East. So enchanted was he with the experiences that he says he’s told his agents he’s not leaving Cannes without having a role lined up in another European film.
We also touched on Reilly’s previous Cannes experiences, which have helped inform his sartorial choices. For our interview, he sported a navy blue suit with a checked shirt and matching pocket square, capped off by a straw hat, a gold-handled cane and a pair of fantastic brown and white wingtips. “It’s Cannes, you can’t just come here in your pajamas.” Check out the video above.
