Get ready to travel back in time three decades on Sunday night with the debut of Season 2 of Halt And Catch Fire on AMC. Now the Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers-created series about the dawn of the digital revolution was one of my favorite new series of 2014 but, as my video review above says, the stronger Halt And Catch Fire 2.0 has a lot more bandwidth and ram.
Picking up in 1985 in the middle of the Reagan Era, Cameron Howe, played by Mackenzie Davis, and Donna Clark, portrayed by Kerry Bishe, find that their gaming start-up software company Mutiny is coming off the adrenaline of its formation and hitting some serious financial, technological and gender obstacles. Meanwhile, now over a year after the events of the end of the first season, cool but still very ambitious Joe MacMillian, played by Lee Pace, and Gordon Clark, played by Scoot McNairy, have left the now-shuttered Cardiff Electric and are looking to truly create something special on the digital landscape – even as they try to discover the kind of men they are, both in the working world and in their personal relationships. With a killer retro soundtrack that sounds a lot like today’s best tunes, both sets of characters are looking to invent the future we now live in. Plus add to that the almost always great James Cromwell who joins the cast as oil conglomerate CEO Jacob Wheeler, whose journalist daughter has become involved with Joe, whose ambition he matches.
So, besides cranking up the New Order and Public Image Ltd, take a look at my review. And tell us if you’ll be logging on to the new season of Halt And Catch Fire on May 31.
