Rupert Wyatt, who directed The Gambler and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, will helm Gambit with Channing Tatum aboard to star. The X-Men movie spinoff from Fox has Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer writing. The studio attached Tatum to star and to produce last October with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, The Donners Company’s Lauren Shuler Donner, and Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg. The project is expected to roll before before the cameras in October.
The screenplay is based on a treatment by legendary Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont, who with Jim Lee created the character for Marvel in 1990. The storyline is being kept under wraps. The character, which also goes by the name Remy LeBeau, has the ability to charge matter with volatile kinetic energy, causing the object in question to explosively release its charge on impact. The character materialized in a short burst in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Tatum will next be seen in the highly-anticipated sequel Magic Mike XXL which bows over the Fourth of July holiday this year.
Wyatt is repped by UTA and Tatum is with UTA and Management 360.
