For the second year, Sony Pictures Television is holding its Diverse Directors Program, which seeks to provide opportunities to talented artists of diverse backgrounds. The program offers qualified candidates the chance to shadow established TV directors on episodes of various hour and half-hour scripted SPT series.
“This program is an important element of Sony Pictures’ larger commitment to diversity and inclusion of people and ideas,” said Paul Martin, SVP and chief diversity officer for Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We are pleased with the opportunities this program provides to participants, and will continue to look at innovative ways for our content to reflect the experiences of our audience.”
Twenty semi-finalists will be chosen out of 400 accepted applicants. They will take part in an in an intensive episodic directing workshop, which consists of six evenings of discussion and instruction from working directors, production personnel and entertainment professionals. The workshop begins in August on the Sony Pictures Lot in Culver City and includes networking events with industry professionals. Three finalists will be invited into the program and have an opportunity to shadow participating TV directors on various SPT series. The director shadowing program begins in October and runs through February.
