EXCLUSIVE: Brooke Shields has signed on to narrate and executive produce When The Bough Breaks, a Point Of View Pictures feature-length documentary about postpartum depression and perinatal mood disorders. This is an important issue to Shields, who signed on to create more awareness for these insidious disorders which often stay hidden in the shadows with awful results. Some moms plunge into depths of depression without knowing why, and do desperate things when their emotions hit critical mass. Shields has first-hand experience with this: she brought the risks to the forefront by documenting her own struggles in her 2006 book Down Came The Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression.
The film features personal stories from director-producer Jamielyn Lippman and producers Lindsay Gerszt and Tanya Newbould after the latter pair connected in a common bond suffering from the same symptoms — but finding little to no information on the subject despite it impacting 1 in 5 new mothers after childbirth. Singer Carnie Wilson, chef Aarti Sequeria and Real Housewives Of Orange County‘s Peggy Tanous also are featured. The project is on the hunt for a distributor and the bet is Shields’ involvement goes a long way toward that.
