The 2015 BET Awards drew 6.5 million viewers on Sunday for a simulcast on BET and Centric. Black-ish stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson hosted the event at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. For a third year in a row the awards show capped the BET Experience, which attracted 152,500 fans over the four-day event at the venue, a 36% increase from 2014. The show itself saw viewership dip from 2014, when Chris Rock rocked as host and an average of 7.9 million viewers tuned in.
BET said Sunday’s preshow from 6-8 PM ET drew 1.9 million viewers, while the postshow drew 3.4 million viewers.
The awards telecast included Janet Jackson honored with the inaugural Ultimate Icon Award, Smokey Robinson receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award and Tom Joyner getting the Humanitarian Award. Appearances included a Bad Boy anniversary reunion, The Weeknd and Alicia Keys, the cast of Empire, Tori Kelly, Ciara, Robin Thicke, Meek Mill, Chris Brown, Jason DeRulo, Janelle Monae and more.
The BET Awards will bow on BET’s international network tomorrow night.
