Melissa Leo will star opposite Bryan Cranston in All The Way, HBO‘s adaptation of the Tony-winning Robert Schenkkan play. Directed by Jay Roach and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the film covers LBJ (Cranston) from the moment the assassination of John F. Kennedy made Johnson the 36th president of the United States, and through a turbulent first year that included leveraging his power to pass Civil Rights legislation in Congress, up to his landslide re-election victory. Oscar winner Leo will play LBJ’s wife, First Lady Claudia Alta Taylor “Lady Bird” Johnson. In the play, the part was played by Betsy Aidem. (Cranston is reprising his Tony-winning role from the Broadway production.)
Schenkkan adapted his play for the screen. Spielberg, Schenkkan, Roach, Cranston, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are executive producing. Earlier this week, the film tapped Anthony Mackie to play Martin Luther King Jr.
Leo, repped by CAA and Untitled, co-stars on the Fox limited series Wayward Pines and will next be seen in Oliver Stone’s Snowden.
