Epix continues to wrangle big-screen veterans for its inaugural foray into original series. Richard Jenkins has joined the ensemble cast of Berlin Station, the 10-episode contemporary spy tale that is premium service’s first drama series. He’ll portray Steven Frost, a veteran of the Cold War who serves as the CIA’s Chief of the Berlin Station. It’s the first series for Jenkins since playing the deceased patriarch of the Fisher family on HBO’s Six Feet Under.
Berlin Station centers on a newly anointed case officer who has arrived at the CIA foreign station in Berlin. He has a clandestine mission: to uncover the source of a leak who has supplied information to a now-famous whistleblower named “Thomas Shaw.” Michaël Roskam is executive producing the series from Paramount TV and will direct the first two episodes. Olen Steinhauer will write it and also exec produce along with showrunner Brad Winters, Eric Roth, Steve Golin, Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Keith Redmon and Luke Rivett. Production is set to begin in the fall for a 2016 premiere.
Jenkins, an Oscar nominee for The Visitor, co-starred in last year’s HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge. He just wrapped filming on Bone Tomahawk, and other recent films include White House Down, Eat Pray Love and Friends With Benefits Dear John. He is repped by Gersh and Bill Treusch Management.
Last week, Epix — the premium TV network/VOD service backed by Viacom, Lionsgate, and MGM — tapped Susan Sarandon to star alongside Nick Nolte in Graves, its first original comedy series.
