The Hollywood Film Awards today announced two-time Oscar-winner Robert De Niro as the recipient of this year’s Hollywood Career Achievement Award. The ceremony, which has long been considered a kickoff of award season, was televised for the first time last year under a multi-year deal between dick clark prods. which owns a stake in the franchise, and CBS. The awards show aired on the low-trafficked Friday night and drew very modest ratings. The two sides have now parted ways. This year’s Hollywood Film Awards will still be telecast with new media distribution via digital platforms. Dick Clark Prods. is expected to bring in a new TV partner in the future.
Founded by Carlos de Abreu 18 years ago, the Hollywood Film Awards are known for de Abreu’s ability to attract A-list talent. This year’s event, held Nov.1 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel again is expected to be a star-studded affair, with the year’s hottest comedy actress Amy Schumer reportedly among those attending.
“The Hollywood Film Awards is an incredible brand, previewing some of the biggest movies and stars of the year, while launching the award season,” said Allen Shapiro, CEO of dick clark productions.
Robert De Niro is currently starring in Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Intern and will appear next in 20th Century Fox’s Joy, coming out December 25, 2015.
Past honorees of the “Hollywood Career Achievement Award” include Glenn Close, Harrison Ford, Richard Gere, Dustin Hoffman, Michael Keaton and Robin Williams among others.
