EXCLUSIVE: Former Relativity Media exec Kevin McKeon has been tapped by The Firm’s new film president and partner Robbie Brenner as creative executive at the recently relaunched indie management and production company. This reteams the duo: McKeon and Brenner previously worked together at Relativity on projects including the adaptation of the Joy Nicholson novel Tribes Of Palos Verdes, the race drama Burden, and acquired the rights to the New York Times bestselling novel Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng.
Relativity is in the midst of restructuring under Chapter 11.
Before Relativity, McKeon worked at Oliver Stone’s shingle Ixtlan Inc during the production of Savages. He also worked at Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen’s Flower Films.
“Kevin has been a terrific partner to me for several years and has an outstanding eye for story-driven, creative filmmaking,” Brenner said. “I’m looking forward to working with him again at The Firm, and he will be a key member of our team as we continue to build the film division.”
The Firm’s CEO Jeff Kwatinetz recently announced the relaunch of The Firm, which operates in film, TV, music and sports (the company had been dormant for seven years after Kwatinetz formed Prospect Park). His first order of business was the hire of Brenner, the former Relativity exec who was nominated for an Oscar for producing Dallas Buyers Club. Among the outfit’s clients is Ice Cube and his production company Cube Vision (Straight Outta Compton).
“Robbie is building a formidable team that will make The Firm a creative haven for talented filmmakers, and Kevin joining our team further achieves that goal,” said Kwatinetz. “Kevin is dedicated to making great films and growing our platform, allowing us to focus on great writers and directors.”
