Locomotive, the film/TV production company re-launched in 2014 by Lucy Barzun Donnelly, Alexandra Kerry and Jonathon Kemp, has hired producer Alexis Alexanian as President of Production. The move comes after she co-produced Locomotive’s Maggie’s Plan, which was picked up by Sony Pictures Classics after its Toronto Film Festival bow.
The hire is also on the heels of Locomotive closing a jointly funded feature development deal with New Regency. In her new role, Alexanian will oversee all aspects of production for the company’s film and U.S. television projects as it ramps up.
“Alexis Alexanian has deep industry experience as both a producer and a consultant to major industry players and we could not be more thrilled to have her join our team,” said Donnelly and Kerry in announcing the hire. “Her taste and expertise in production is unparalleled and Alexanian has great relationships throughout the industry which we have already seen can move mountains on our projects.”
Alexanian, whose film credits include Bonfire Of The Vanities, A League Of Their Own and Striptease, also co-founded InDigEnt with Gary Winick, John Sloss and IFC. Pics produced there include Tadpole, Personal Velocity, Tape, Pieces of April (which Donnelly also co-produced) and Chelsea Walls. Under her own banner, Elixir Films, Alexanian also produced international TV series Long Way Round starring Ewan McGregor as well as the Ethan Hawke-directed The Hottest State. She currently is president of the board of directors for New York Women in Film & Television.
In addition to Maggie’s Plan, Alexanian also produced Look Away along with Donnelly and Kerry. The original script was written by Jennifer Schuur and developed in-house at Locomotive and directed by directing duo Monty Whitebloom and Andy Delaney. Chloë Sevigny, Aidan Turner and Matthew Broderick star. That pic, in postproduction, was also made with New Regency.
“In an industry that’s constantly changing, it’s imperative to adapt to remain relevant,” said Alexanian. “Locomotive has the vision and resources to produce quality material across the wide spectrum of distribution outlets. It is particularly meaningful to me to partner with such powerful and creative women.”
