Following the promising start for Jerrod Carmichael’s comedy series, which was renewed for a second season, NBC is betting on another comedy project created by and toplined by rising New York comedians. The network has put in development a single-camera comedy from Josh Rabinowitz and Kevin Barnett, executive producers, head writers, and cast members of Tru TV’s sketch series Friends of the People, which recently wrapped its second season.
Written by Rabinowitz and Barnett, the project is described as an odd couple story of two best friends (Rabinowitz, Barnett) who’ve worked hard their entire lives to reach the careers they’ve always wanted, and then realize everything sucks and they hate it. So they quit their jobs to figure out what they really want and care about. It’s the classic story about the 50 year-old white woman giving up the American dream to discover herself in another country, but about two dudes in their 20s who move nowhere. Rabinowitz and Barnett executive produce with 3 Arts’ Howard Klein and Avi Gilbert.
Rabinowitz and Barnett recently starred in the short film Hasta La Vista written by Rabinowitz. They also just wrapped Mike Birbiglia’s latest film, Don’t Think Twice. Additionally, Rabinowitz co-starred on the MTV comedy series I Just Want My Pants Back while Barnett was a series regular on MTV2’s Guy Code.
Rabinowitz is repped by 3 Arts and Morris Yorn; Barnett by 3 Arts, APA and Ziffren.
