Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight took four big honors at the Capri Hollywood Film Festival. In addition to Hateful Eight being named Best Movie, Samuel L. Jackson and Jennifer Jason Leigh received nods as Best Actor and Supporting Actress, while composer Ennio Morricone received the prize for Best Musical Score.
Brie Larson from Room was voted Best Leading Actress. Original Screenplay Award went to David O. Russell for Joy, which had its European premiere in Capri.
Carol, like Hateful Eight a Weinstein Company picture, received the Best Adapted Screenplay for writer Phyllis Nagy and Production Design for Judy Becker. Carol’s three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell was given the Legend Award. Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella also received an award for Powell’s costumes.
Cary Fukunaga was named Best Director for Beasts of No Nation, whose Idris Elba won Best Supporting Actor. Fukunaga was also honored with the Best Cinematography Award. The film about African child soldiers was produced by Netflix and had an awards-qualifying theatrical run slightly ahead of its debut on the streaming service.
Pietro Scalia was name Best Editor for The Martian. Inside Out was named Best Animated Movie. Best Documentary went to Paolo Ruffini’s Resilienza. Best Foreign Movie is Labyrinth of Lies by Giulio Ricciarelli which is shortlisted for foreign-language Oscar nominations.
“See You Again” — the tune by Wiz Khalifaft Charlie Puth from Fast and Furious 7 – was named Best Original Song. Enrico Iannaccone was voted Director of the Future for La Buona Uscita.
The festivals Legend award went to Irish film director Jim Sheridan. Belgian performer Matthias Schoenaerts was awarded as Revelation of the Year for Hooper’s The Danish Girl. Oscar-winning screenwriter Bobby Moresco (Crash) – who announced his commitment to the Ambi Film-produced movie about Lamborghini – is the 2016 Italian-American Icon.
