Lionsgate TV has signed an overall deal with Emmy-winning writer-producer-comic K.P. Anderson. Under the pact, Anderson will create original series and formats via his Pygmy Wolf Productions banner, and Lionsgate will have exclusive rights to alternative and scripted TV content produced by Pygmy Wolf.
Anderson served as executive producer and head writer of E!’s pop-culture series The Soup. During that time, he also developed and executive produced several series including BBC America’s The Nerdist, Nickelodeon’s You Gotta See This, Style’s The Dish, G4’s Web Soup and Versus’ Sports Soup. Through his Pygmy Wolf Prods — a company he named after his late cocker spaniel, who was small but fierce — Anderson also developed and executive produced E!’s The Comment Section and The Soup Investigates, as well as developed comedy/variety series for NBC, E!, The CW and TBS.
“After watching K.P. Anderson help deliver countless clever laughs for over a decade on The Soup, we are delighted to have him join the fold here as we continue to expand Lionsgate Television’s commitment to creating unique comedy series,” said Jennifer O’Connell, EVP Alternative Programming, Lionsgate Television. “Networks are hungry for someone to crack new comedy formats, and with his talent, versatility, and strong relationships, K.P. is one of the best at breaking new ground.”
Chris Selak, EVP Television, Lionsgate Television Group: “From his stand-up comedy to his work as an executive producer, K.P. Anderson has developed a finely tuned sense of what’s funny, topical and imminently watchable, so I’m excited to see him bring his of-the-moment sensibility to scripted television,” said “K.P. adds to our growing stable of scripted and unscripted talent, further diversifying Lionsgate’s slate of programming.”
Saiid Anderson: “Kevin Beggs, Sandra Stern, Jen O’Connell and Chris Selak are the best quadrumvirate of incredibly smart, driven and truly decent people to work with as I start this next chapter of my career creating and developing comedy across network, cable and OTT platforms. Also, they caved to my contractual demand of having an unflattering iPad picture taken of me before I enter their building for every meeting, which was a pretty sweet victory for me.”
Prior to The Soup, Anderson had writing and producing stints on a variety of series, including Politically Incorrect, Last Comic Standing, The Keenen Ivory Wayans Show and Mohr Sports. He has also written for the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the ESPYs, the Independent Spirit Awards and Fox NFL Sunday. As a comic, the Minnesota native has appeared on numerous stand-up shows and has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal.
Anderson is repped by the Gersh Agency, 3 Arts Entertainment and Stone, Genow, Smelkinson, Binder & Christopher.
