Berlin Film Festival competition drama-thriller Alone In Berlin stars Emma Thompson, Brendan Gleeson and Daniel Bruhl in the story of a German couple who began a campaign against Hitler during World War II. One of the more sought out main selection offerings, it’s been acquired by Picturehouse Entertainment and Altitude Film Distribution for the UK. Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder’s Cornerstone Films is handling international rights.
The Vincent Perez-helmed film is based on the book Every Man Dies Alone by Hans Fallada. In the eponymous city in 1940, Anna and Otto Quangel learn their son has been killed at the front. Realizing that Hitler’s promises are nothing but lies and deceit, they begin penning postcards to raise awareness, depositing them in apartment buildings around Berlin. But the SS and the Gestapo are soon onto them.
The first official screening is Monday. X Filme’s Stefan Arndt produces with Uwe Schott, Master Movies’ Marco Pacchioni, James Schamus, and FilmWave’s Christian Grass and Paul Trijbits.
