American Supergroup co-creators and exec producers Kevin Wayne Waldrop and Gary Wayne Bridges were at Mip-TV in Cannes this weekend to announce the launch of international format sales to the show (also exec produced by Barry Josephson, Bones). CAA is handling world rights. The project was originally hatched back in 2012 with the eight-episode U.S. version now in production in Nashville. The series will premiere on an as-yet unnamed network in late spring/early summer. A music competition program, it showcases the creation and evolution of “the best new band in the country.” Guided by a panel of music experts, 25 finalists will be selected to form five groups of five members each. Each contestant must be a monster vocalist, a master musician, and an accomplished songwriter. Audiences will interact with, and vote for, contestants via social media platforms and an exclusive ASG app. Among the mentors lined up for the U.S. show is musician James Burton.
Amid the current fascination surrounding murder investigations, ITV is teaming with Piers Morgan for two-part factual series, Killer Women With Piers Morgan. Produced by Plum Pictures (Inside Death Row With Trevor McDonald) the U.S.-based program will take Morgan through Texas and Florida to meet some of America’s most notorious female murderers. He will venture behind bars to come face-to-face with women who have carried out unspeakable crimes in a quest to discover what drove them to kill, while also investigating the truth behind each case. Speaking to police and lawyers who worked to bring the killers to justice, Morgan also meets family and friends from both sides of each case to find out how their lives have been impacted and to gain insights into whether justice has been served.
