EXCLUSIVE: Studio 8 has optioned The Possibly True Story Of The Super Burglar Trained To Rip Off Al Qaeda, an article published in The Daily Beast by Geoff Manaugh about a plot by the U.S. government to use bank robbers to steal from al Qaeda post-9/11. George Mastras to adapt for the screen. Studio 8’s Jon Silk brought it in and will oversee it, as the financier/producer won a highly competitive situation that features three other studios making formal offers. They are using a working title of Osama’s Eleven. In addition to his work on Breaking Bad, Mastras also wrote the pilot to HBO’s recently renewed series Vinyl and was an exec producer for the first season. Manaugh is an author who has lectured about architecture and robberies for years. He is currently on tour to support his newly released book, A Burglar’s Guide To The City. Lloyd Braun and Andrew Mittman will produce through Whalerock Industries after the article was brought in by Aaron Ensweiler. Dan Halsted and Nate Miller at Manage-ment will also produce. Mastras is repped by Manage-ment, WME and Tara Kole, while Manaugh is repped by Manage-ment.
