“I just said, just tell me what to do and I’ll do it,” Chelsea Handler said of working on her Netflix docu series Chelsea Does. “Make me uncomfortable, I don’t want to be in charge of anything,” the past and future talk show host added. “I wanted to give information or get information with a sense of humor.”
The 4-part Chelsea Does series debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this year and went up in one swoop on Netflix on January 23. Tackling topics of marriage, racism, Silicon Valley and drugs, the Eddie Schmidt and Morgan Neville EP’d quartet, which the former directed, is part confessional, part dinner party, part travelogue, part talking heads and full of Handler’s quick, foul-mouthed and cutting wit, as I said in my review earlier this year. “I would love to make more,” Handler announced of the documentaries.
The host and the EPs joined me onstage during Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys all-day event on April 10. This is, of course, only the first part of Handler’s deal with Netflix. Her new 30-minute talk show debuts on the streaming service on May 11.
