UPDATED: Ashton Kutcher, joined by co-stars Danny Masterson and Sam Elliott, just made the announcement for Season 2, which will consist of 20 episodes, in a video on Twitter:
The Ranch, toplined by former That ’70s Show co-stars Kutcher and Masterson, from 2.5 Men co-showrunners Don Reo and Jim Patterson, introduced a new model at Netflix with an original straight-to-series 20-episode order, released in two batches of 10 episodes each. (Season 1A launches in the fall). The pattern will continue in Season 2, set for a 2017 premiere, with two batches of 10 episodes each, keeping the streaming network sitcom’s episode count close to the broadcast standard of 22 a season.
The Ranch marked Netflix’s second original multi-camera comedy series after the Full House follow-up Fuller House, both of which have gone to a second season (as have virtually all Netflix original scripted series to date).
Written by Reo and Patterson, The Ranch is set on a Colorado ranch, with Kutcher’s character returning home after a brief semi-pro football career to run the family business with his brother, played by Masterson.
The show launched to lukewarm reviews, though co-stars Sam Elliott and Debra Winger have been getting props for their scene-stealing performances.
Reo and Patterson executive produce the series, with Kutcher and Masterson producing.
