Mongrel International has come aboard to rep international sales rights outside the U.S. and Canada to We Are X, the Stephen Kijak documentary about Japanese rock band X Japan that rocked at Sundance and SXSW this year winning awards at both. The film is produced by John Battsek’s Passion Pictures, which was behind the Oscar-winning docus Searching For Sugar Man and One Day In September. X Japan was the most successful rock band in Japanese history– 30 million albums sold — until breaking up in 1997 at the height of their success in 1997 the band broke up, leaving frontman Yoshiki to battle physical and spiritual demons and attempt to bring his music to the world. Mongrel will host the pic’s international market premiere in Cannes on May 14.
Director Simon West has come aboard to direct War Wolf, an action movie penned by Andy Briggs and Paul Finch that is being set for a November shooting start in Italy. This is a planned franchise of films under a partnership between West, Fortitude International and Amber Entertainment revolving around the French legend Loup de Guerre. The story is set in 1356, when English solider Earl Hugo is awarded the castle of his enemy, the French assassin Mauchet. In the castle’s dark walls and the lands that surround it, someone has reawakened the the ferocious War Wolf which is now on a killing spree with a bloodlust for both English knights and Frenchmen alike. Fortitude International is handling international sales in Cannes.
