ABC is keeping the presence of multi-camera comedy on its schedule. The network has renewed freshman Dr. Ken for a second season. The series, starring Ken Jeong, has been an OK addition to the network’s multi-camera Friday block, doing well behind veteran Last Man Standing. There is no word yet on Last Man.
Dr. Ken, from Sony TV and ABC Studios, was renewed alongside ABC’s pickup of two pilots, also from Sony TV and ABC Studios, drama Notorious and comedy Imaginary Mary.
It joins six other returning ABC comedy series, all single-camera, Modern Family, The Goldbergs, Black-ish, The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat and The Real O’Neals. The network also has picked up three new comedies so far, also all single-camera.
Dr. Ken is executive produced by Mike Sikowitz, Ken Jeong, John Davis and John Fox.
