Disney co-financed The BFG with Walden Media and will release it July 1 in the U.S. as the second-to-last film in its DreamWorks’ distribution. The late Melissa Mathison penned the screenplay for Spielberg’s first directing gig for Disney. Have a look at this second trailer and tell us what you think. Steven Spielberg‘s The BFG got a 4 1/2-minute standing-O at its Cannes premiere Saturday night, and today Disney released a new trailer for the pic. “Please don’t eat me!” begs the little girl of the enormous dude who reached through her bedroom window and snatched her up. “You think because I’m a giant that I’m a man-gobbling cannibal?” he replies with a laugh. Turns out this isn’t your run-of-the-mill “fee-fi-fo-fum” big-un; no, you can call him the Big Friendly Giant.
But it’s not all smiles for young Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) and her BFG (Oscar winner Mark Rylance). At a mere 24 feet, he’s dwarfed by the decidedly not-F guys in Giant Country — who are twice his size and prefer having people for dinner than to dinner. The girl watches in distress as the interlopers toss BFG around like an action figure. But when he admits he’s scared, she counters with, “I’m not.” And she has a plan.
