Haut et Court has acquired French rights to Yorgos Lanthimos‘ new project The Killing of a Sacred Deer. HanWay Films is handling international sales at Cannes. The deal was brokered between Carole Scotta of Haut et Court and HanWay’s Director of Sales Chiara Gelardin.
Colin Farrell reteams with his The Lobster director for the film, which will be produced by Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe’s Element Pictures. Deer is written by Lanthimos and his regular collaborator, Efthymis Filippou. Production starts in August.
The story revolves around Steven, a charismatic surgeon, and a teenage boy who seeks to integrate himself into his broken family. When the boy’s actions become increasingly sinister, Steven’s ideal life starts to fall apart. The film is fully financed by Film4 and New Sparta Films under a partnership arrangement brokered by Hanway Films. The project was developed by Element Pictures and Film4.
Haut et Court co-produced and released Lanthimos’ The Lobster, which won the Cannes Jury Prize in 2015.
A24 acquired domestic rights to the film on the first day of the market.
