EXCLUSIVE: Fox 2000 has acquired rights to the upcoming novel from writer-director Walt Becker, the YA fantasy Charlie Paris And The Young Ambassadors. Scribe Joe Ballarini set to adapt it into a feature film that Becker will direct. Karen Rosenfelt is aboard as producer.
Charlie Paris centers on a middle school genius of the same name who finds himself transported via his missing father’s mysterious invention into the midst of an intergalactic conflict. Recruiting a small staff of his friends, the young ambassadors will have to navigate galactic politics, and each other, as they find a way to save their universe.
Becker’s helming credits include Disney’s Wild Hogs and most recently Fox’s Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip, which bowed in December and grossed $234.5M worldwide. His 2008 book Link was previously acquired by Disney for Mandeville Films to produce. He also is behind Storyville, an indie drama series based on the historical account of the city of New Orleans during the era of its Storyville red-light district to be written by Rome co-creator William J. ”Bill” Macdonald and Becker
Ballarini is currently penning the script for Imagine Agents for Fox with Boom! Studios and Anonymous Content producing and Michael Keaton attached to star.
Becker and Ballarini are both repped by Paradigm. Becker is also repped by Luber/Roklin and Gang, Tyer, and Ballarini by attorneys Colden, McKuin & Frankel.
