EXCLUSIVE: David Spade has joined the cast of Warning Shot, with the comedic actor taking on a rare dramatic role in the indie being directed by first-time helmer Dustin Fairbanks. Breanne Mattson penned the script, which was a Nicholl quarterfinalist in 2011. Bruce Dern, James Earl Jones, Tammy Blanchard, Guillermo Diaz, Onata Aprile, Frank Whaley and Dwight Henry also star. Production began this week.
The plot centers on a single mother and her young daughter struggling to make ends meet until they inherit a farmhouse from their grandfather. When a family business rival (Spade) sends armed men to take the water rights to the farm’s creek by force, the situation spirals out of control. Ross Otterman, Spero Stamboulis and Will Wallace are producing.
Spade will next be seen alongside his longtime collaborator Adam Sandler in their Netflix action comedy The Do-Over, which begins streaming on the service Friday. He’s repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment.
