Broadway’s Hamilton and Hollywood’s Orange is the New Black joined politicians and a city of revelers in today’s New York City Pride Parade, mixing joy with solemn moments of reflection and respect for the 49 victims of the recent Orlando massacre.
Kicking off the parade at noon, in a moment of silence, was a group of marchers carrying 49 orange flags to protest gun violence, and photographs of those killed at Orlando’s gay dance club Pulse on June 12.
With CNN reporting an increase of 25% in police protection at this year’s gay pride event, the parade remained more joyous than solemn, with famous participants – and supporters – sharing their enthusiasm on social media. Here’s a selection.
