Las Vegas legends Siegfried & Roy are to be the subject of a biographical miniseries directed by The Physician helmer, Philipp Stölzl, for Germany’s increasingly international UFA Fiction. Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Uwe Horn will exec produce the story of their lives via the duo’s S&R Enterprises. The pair met on a cruise ship in 1960 and developed their first joint show, driven by a shared passion for the art of magic and illusion. From 1990, they headlined Vegas’ Mirage Hotel featuring their trademark white tigers in the show. In 2003, the artists’ career was brought to an abrupt halt when Roy was critically injured by one of the animals; this will all be covered in the mini. UFA Fiction co-CEO Nico Hofmann is producing. Jan Berger wrote the script. All worked on the 2013 period adventure The Physician (Der Medicus) which was shot in English and was a big hit for Universal in Germany, ranking as the No. 7 movie of the year. It is yet to be determined if the Siegfried & Roy story will be made in German or English. FremantleMedia International will handle offshore distribution. UFA Fiction recently produced event series Deutschland 83 which has sold to more than 56 territories and scooped a Peabody Award. Its other credits include Generation War and Naked Among Wolves.
