The animals are truly on the loose in the Season 2 opener of Zoo (0.9/3), but unfortunately that apocalypse returned with a lot less roar and bite than last year. Clocking in at two hours on Tuesday, the narratively shameless CBS series based on James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge’s 2012 book was down 25% among adults 18-49 from its one hour Season 1 premiere June 30 last year.
In fact, in early numbers, the Season 2 opener of Zoo is matching its September 15, 2015 Season 1 finale for a series low in the key demo right now – though we could see an adjustment later. With an audience of 5.12 million, last night’s Zoowas up 7% from last year’s ender but down 37% from the Season 1 opener.
With America’s Got Talent (2.4/9) up a tenth from last week, NBC won Tuesday again. The show was pushed back an hour to 9 PM as a steady Olympic Trials: Swimming (1.3/5) seeded that Rio fever for the Comcast-owned net. However, with the top two shows of the night, NBC had a 2.0/7 rating and 9.29 million viewers and basically beating CBS and ABC put together in both categories.
Speaking of ABC, the Disney-owned net had Uncle Buck (1.1/4) and To Tell The Truth (1.0/4) again last night – both of which are up a tenth from last week’s final numbers, as was Fox’s Hotel Hell (0.9/4). The network’s Coupled (0.5/2) and the CW’s Containment (0.3/1) were also up a tenth and even with their June 21 episodes.
