If at first you succeed, try try again. Less than two weeks after its resurrected Hip Hop Honors drew 3 million viewers, VH1 is reviving another long-dormant franchise. The cable net said today that VH1 Divas is coming back in December after a four-year hiatus.
No talent was announced for the holiday-themed new special, but the network said it will “celebrate music and pop-culture’s greatest divas.” The show will premiere December 5 from the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. It will be produced by Den of Thieves, with Jesse Ignatovic and Evan Prager as executive producers. Amy Doyle and Ryan Kroft are EPs for VH1.
Launched in 1998, the VH1 Divas series has featured music legends along with breakout stars.
The most recent 2012 edition was headlined by Demi Lovato, Natasha Bedingfield, Ciara, Kelly Clarkson, Miley Cyrus, Keri Hilson, Kelly Rowland, Jordin Sparks, Melanie Fiona, Ledisi and Metric. Iggy Azalea, Pitbull, Elisha Cuthbert, Jenna Dewan, Kat Graham, Nene Leakes, Ellie Kemper, Kelly Osbourne, LA Reid and Amber Riley also appeared. Past participants have included Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan and Shania Twain.
