Universal and Legendary‘s The Great Wall is finally nearing its release date of February 17, 2017 after years in development — it once had Ed Zwick helming and Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker attached. But Thomas Tull and friends did just fine in the end, with Matt Damon starring and Zhang Yimou making his English-language directorial debut in the story of an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The script is by Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, with the most recent draft from Tony Gilroy, who penned Damon’s Bourne films.
The trailer that dropped today certainly shows the visual chops of Zhang, who is behind pics like Hero and House Of Flying Daggers, and the scope is legit: it’s being billed as the largest film ever shot entirely in China. It will be released in 3D and also stars Pedro Pascal, Tian Jing, Andy Lau and Willem Dafoe.
