Today’s TCA panel on MTV’s new comedy Mary + Jane got a video introduction from Snoop Dogg. The rapper, revealed here today as one of the executive producers, also performs the show’s new theme song.
Dogg added there’s another good reason he was the best person to introduce the half-hour that stars Scout Durwood and Jessica Rothe as two millennial “ganja-preneurs” running an weed delivery service in L.A: “Because I’ve been delivering weed for a long m—f— time.”
Dogg did not appear live on the panel with Durwood, Rothe and EPs Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont. But the producers said Dogg will guest star during the first season. “He does not play himself,” said Kaplan. “He’s like a Snoop Fairy.”
Kaplan added that to see Snoop “you have to watch to the very end” of the episode. Producers did not specify which episode the rapper will appear in. They also confirmed other celebrity guest stars including Seth Green, Leonard Roberts and Missi Pyle. Andy Daly will appear in the season’s final episode.
The producers added that it’s been difficult to get top celebs for a new show with two relatively unknown stars but hoped that “weed-friendly” and “comedy-friendly” stars will come to appreciate the show and want to “come out and play.”
Coming aboard Mary + Jane later in the process, Snoop joined fellow executive producers Guymon Casady, Marcus Blakely, and Jill McElroy. The show premieres Monday Sept. 5 at 10 p.m.
