At Fox‘s TCA session, the network’s executives were asked about the decision to renew supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow for a fourth season following soft ratings and the controversial exit of female Nicole Beharie, whose character was killed off in the Season 3 finale.
“This was obviously a very hard conversation,” Madden said. “Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie were the spine of the show in a lot of ways, so it was difficult to figure out if it was the right thing to do, to continue or not. But the producers pitched us an array of new characters and new situations for Crane to get into.” He noted that the show is moving its setting to Washington D.C., which opens new storyline possibilities, and Mison’s TV star power.
Madden indicated that the decision to bring back the show for next midseason seems to be paying off so far. “The first seven scripts are really fun,” he said. “We think there’s a lot of good new stories to tell.”
