CBS Films has set Jennifer Chambers Lynch to direct Hellfest. Lynch, the daughter of iconic helmer David Lynch who made a high profile genre directing debut with Boxing Helena, more recently has directed episodes of last season’s The Walking Dead. She re-teams here with that zombie series exec producer Gale Anne Hurd, who is producing the feature horror thriller through her Valhalla Motion Pictures banner. Hellfest involves a Halloween night of fun turns deadly at a horror theme park when a costumed killer begins slaying unsuspecting patrons who believe that it’s all part of the show. Production will begin this winter at an undisclosed theme park.
CBS Films president Terry Press said her company has “loved the concept of Hellfest since Gale brought it to us and we have been waiting for exactly the right director. Jennifer came to us with both the passion and the vision necessary to make Hellfest a terrifying Halloween tradition much like the growing phenomenon of the theme park horror nights enjoyed by millions the world over.” Deal comes as CBS Films launches Hell Or High Water in limited release this Friday, with David Mackenzie directing Ben Foster and Chris Pine in the thriller scripted by Sicario‘s Taylor Sheridan.
Lynch is repped by Gersh and Fineman Entertainment. CBS Films execs Alex Ginno and Mark Ross will oversee it along with Phillip Kobylanski for Valhalla.
