If there’s one film this fall that will leave moviegoers reaching for their Kleenexes, it’s Weinstein Co.‘s emotional drama Lion directed by Garth Davis. Based on Saroo Brierley’s 2013 memoir A Long Way Home, Lion follows the 5-year-old Saroo (Sunny Pawar) who becomes separated from his family after falling asleep on a parked train, and winds up 1,000 miles from his village in Calcutta. After learning to survive in Kolkata, Saroo is ultimately adopted by an Australian Couple (Nicole Kidman, David Wenham). But as he grows (Dev Patel), questions linger about the life he left behind. With the help of Google Earth, Saroo sets out to find his family. Two-time Oscar nominee Rooney Mara also stars. Word is that similar to the way Jacob Tremblay moved audiences last year in the Oscar-fave Room, so does Pawar who carries Lion‘s first hour. Lion will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 10 and open the Friday after Thanksgiving on Nov. 25; a prime launch date for previous TWC awards contenders such as The King’s Speech and The Imitation Game.
